Downtown ends 2021 with record-setting business growth

37 new street-level businesses opened in 2021

Downtown Colorado Springs ended 2021 with record-setting growth of street-level businesses. A total of 37 new street-level businesses opened Downtown in 2021, including retail boutiques, restaurants, service providers and venues.

“We continue to field interest from local and regional businesses who are looking to expand or open in our growing city center,” said Katie Frank, Economic Development Manager for Downtown Partnership. “As housing opportunities expand Downtown, we anticipate continued growth for new shops, restaurants, and various services,” Frank continued. Recent growth Downtown includes businesses on both the north and south ends of the historic core, as well as to the east. The retail vacancy rate Downtown sits at 3%.

Economic growth Downtown benefits the entire community, with the one-square mile footprint providing 6 times its geographic weight in tax revenue. Announcements for 2022 include the opening of Denver-based Tattered Cover bookstore and Illegal Pete’s, and several other food and beverage businesses.
