Art on the Streets accepts proposals from November through mid-February.
Each year, 12 works are selected by an independent jury. The primary selection criteria is artistic merit. Secondary criteria include installation logistics, maintenance and safety concerns, and inclusion of a diverse range of media and perspectives. All works will be evaluated for stability by a structural engineer contracted by Downtown Ventures. While sculpture tends to dominate the entry pool, other types of art suitable for outdoor display are encouraged, including murals as well as interactive and multimedia works. Art on the Streets also has the ability to work with artists on larger and/or site-specific installations.

Troy Briggs is an interdisciplinary artist and educator based in Chicago whose work explores the intersection of sound, light, mechanics, and the passage of time. Through poetics and machines, slow-moving systems, and quiet interventions, his projects examine the forces that structure experience—gravity, distance, rhythm, and attention. Over his career, Briggs has worked with canaries, black holes, the Chicago wind, the moon’s gradual drift from Earth, and the undulating motion of waves.
Originally from Colorado, he earned his BFA in Sculpture from Colorado State University and his Masters from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where he has taught interdisciplinary art and design since 2013. His work has been exhibited widely in Chicago, Portland, and Berlin. Briggs’s practice is driven by the belief that everything becomes more fascinating, complex, terrifying, and beautiful the longer we look into it.
