DESCRIPTION:The Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum is pleased to announce the opening our new exhibit\, Freedom to Thrive: The American Experiment in Colorado Springs on Saturday August 1\, 2026. Coinciding with Colorado Day\, Freedom to Thrive is an important contribution to the 250/150 commemoration. Reflecting on both the Semi-quincentennial of America and the Sesquicentennial of Colorado’s statehood\, this exhibit centers people and stories to examine opportunities and obstacles to freedom in our community. \nFeaturing over two dozen contemporary and historic changemakers/advocates/activists who work(ed)to make Colorado Springs a community where all residents have equal opportunity to live healthy\, safe\, and prosperous lives\, this inspiring exhibit asks guests to consider the power of personal stories – including their own – while challenging us all to find common ground for the common good in 2026. Finally\, inspired by the connection\, conversation\, and meaning throughout the gallery\, a “call to action” section provides an opportunity to get involved in the ongoing work shaping our community today. \nThis powerful exhibit was developed in partnership with a talented array of Community Curators including: L’Bertrice Solomon\, Joyce Salazar\, Patience Kabwasa\, Chauncy Johnson\, Maria Cordova\, and Jay Byron. Funding for this innovative project was generously provided by the T. Rowe Price Foundation\, the Colorado Springs Health Foundation\, El Pomar Foundation\, the Anschutz Foundation\, the Bee Vradenburg Foundation\, and the CSPM Clock Tower Society.

DESCRIPTION:Presented in partnership with\nthe Colorado Springs Youth Choir \nAdmission is free\, but registration is required. \nMembers of the community are invited to perform as part of a patriotic PopUp Choir\, to commemorate the America 250/Colorado 150 anniversaries. In the summer of 1893\, Katharine Lee Bates was in Colorado Springs teaching English at the Colorado Summer School at Colorado College. Along with a group of colleagues\, she made the trip to the top of Pikes Peak\, where she would create the first draft of her poem “America the Beautiful.” Celebrate and reflect on Bates’ words through this immersive musical experience\, hosted by the Colorado Springs Youth Choir.
