As we grow\, we’re hoping to have simultaneous mini events\, but for the time being come by and meet fellow creatives from your community! \nThe Montvales at Lulu’s Downtown on August 4 at 7 PM \nBorn and raised in Knoxville\, TN\, Sally Buice and Molly Rochelson of songwriter duo The Montvales spent much of their formative years busking amidst the Elvis impersonators and musical saw players of the town’s Market Square\, honing their uniquely boisterous harmonies and driving\, joyful sound. Eventually they graduated to playing indoors on the local Americana radio station\, WDVX\, and found community in old-time circles around town. A local fiddler’s dairy cows were among the first intrepid listeners of their early DIY recordings.

Live performances are high-energy dance parties infusing Salsa classics with original grooves and compositions mixed to impress hips of discernment into rage. PLC was founded in 2010 by Fernando Aveiga and Ryan Mullin. Juan Sebastian Ramirez Espinosa joined as partner and musical director in 2019 and many inspired/talented musicians from the past and present have added to the ever evolving collective that is PLC.

Although they showed up to their first gig armed with homemade puff paint t-shirts\, a load of crass jokes\, and all dressed intentionally like Stevie Nicks\, from the first few notes of their tight vocal harmonies\, dazzling string virtuosity\, and clever arrangements\, no one had any choice but to take them seriously. \n  \nDetermined to be more than a one-night stand\, Big Richard hit the road. They slapped as hard as possible on the festival circuit\, worked up their stamina on nationwide headlining tours\, and left a wake of die-hard Big Richard Heads across the country swooning for their honest songwriting\, chilling vocals\, and fiddle-driven barn-burners. \n  \nFueled by a steady diet of gas station snacks\, Big Richard is currently touring their debut full-length studio album Girl Dinner\, following a whirlwind year that included performances on PBS’ the Cavern Sessions\, NPR’s World Cafe\, Telluride Bluegrass Festival\, Delfest\, Bourbon and Beyond\, Jam Cruise\, and New Year’s Eve at the Ryman in Nashville. \n  \nThey often refer to themselves as the gremlins of the bluegrass world\, and the gremlins are: platinum recording artist Bonnie Sims\, who rips the mandolin and smells like Snoop Dogg’s sock drawer; road dog Eve Panning\, who toured extensively with the fiddle band Barrage and has trained her dog to murder on command; bassist Hazel Royer\, plucked from the sidewalk in front of Berklee\, can probably communicate with crows; and Dr. Joy Adams\, who would just rather be skiing.

DESCRIPTION:All Ages\, Standing Room Only \nThere’s a mystical allure to the road. Innately literal and figurative\, it is both the blacktop and the connective tissue between people\, places\, and cultures. The opportunity to venture beyond what’s known and comfortable into what’s possible. A rugged romanticism of packing up a standard issue Chevy Express tour van with instruments\, scuffed amps\, overflowing merch boxes\, and a trio of musicians setting sail to share Duhon’s songs with anyone who will listen. For a young Andrew Duhon\, the road was the connection from “No Man’s Land” to the “Promised Land.” A chance to truly connect with former strangers through song. To feel equal kinship with the good ol’ boys in Beaumont\, TX and the hippies and artists in Bellingham\, WA. But with that comes a weight. Duhon has a knack for telling the kind of stories that clearly cost the writer something to tell\, the kind of honesty that feels noble and never half hearted. Entertaining? Sure\, but when a song written by a stranger heals you\, even in the smallest way\, that’s a connection beyond entertainment\, and that is the journey Andrew Duhon sets out on from his home in Louisiana. His songs are about recognizing our story as much as they are about telling his\, and his coast to coast pursuits have given him a clearer view of the American Landscape than most are privy to.
