ART ON THE STREETS PROGRAM
Art on the Streets celebrates the power of art in public places while turning the streets of Downtown Colorado Springs into a yearlong outdoor art gallery.
Now in its 15th year, Art on the Streets was created by Downtown Partnership and Community Ventures, with support from our founding sponsor US Bank as well as numerous other sponsors, foundations and individual donors. Art on the Streets is completely supported by private donations. For more on supporting Art on the Streets, please go here.
Since the first Art on the Streets exhibit in 1999, Art on the Streets has displayed more than 200 works of art by more than 100 regional, national and international artists. More than 25 sculptures have been purchased, nearly all of which are installed in downtown locations. Art on the Streets has served as a model public art program that has inspired communities across the country. The program has received awards by the Partnership for Community Design and the Arts / Business / Education Consortium.
The Judy Noyes Memorial Purchase Fund
In 2013, Community Ventures and Downtown Partnership established the Judy Noyes Memorial Purchase Fund. Donations made to this fund of Community Ventures are dedicated toward the purchase of public works of art through the Art on the Streets program. The fund honors the memory of Art on the Streets founder Judy Noyes.
In 1959, Judy and her husband, Dick, opened The Chinook Bookshop, which for 45 years was not just a thriving retail presence for downtown, but a true community space where friends gathered and a diversity of ideas were explored and respected.
Judy was an unwavering voice for a strong downtown and thriving community. She became one of the first board members of the Downtown Partnership and Community Ventures boards in 1997. She believed a world-class community needed public art, and Art on the Streets was Judy’s passion and pride.
